How do I get my mother a new insurance plan when her current health insurance will not be available when she moves states?

Asked by shenry15  |  Jul 18, 2011

My mother is moving to VA from PA and her health insurance, BRAVO, is not accepted in VA. Can you someone point me the right direction to find comparable health insurance to her Bravo plan that's accepted in VA?

Carol Bradley Bursack, Jul 19, 2011

Over the span of two decades author, columnist and speaker Carol Bradley Bursack cared for a neighbor and six elderly family members. Because of this experience, Bradley Bursack created a portable support group, the book "Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories."

Depending on her age and health, she may have to go into a state pool (assuming VA has one - many states do). If you go to www.healthcare.gov, you may find information that can help you. If she is nearing 65, of course, Medicare is the way to go, but I assume you would have mentioned that. Good luck,
Carol
