You should check out http://www.agingcare.com/134755 The price is very reasonable. When you look at different companies consider a few points:How far does the system reach? Be aware of hidden fees that can add up like installation fees, activation fees, equipment fees. Also try and avoid getting locked into any type of contract. Do you research first to make sure you get the product that is right for the user. Let me know if I can help you out more!!Lindsey

My mom uses Sutter Lifeline and I believe she pays $20 a month.

I just got a new medical alarm for my mom at medipendan and it works great. They have no contract and their price is affordable. Best of all unlike her old unit my mom can now go outside because the operator talks directly thru the pendant.

Make sure you tell the medical alert company what type of telephone system you are using. Most work on traditional land lines. My Mom has fiber-optic cable system (FIOS) and someone told us that it did not work on these systems.
jharrilison: this system sounds great! I like that they can speak directly to their clients. I always worry that, by the time the company calls the list of people, it may be too late.

I would say that a medical alert is great to have-especially if the person is living alone. Depending upon your Mom's health situation-would probably most determine the type of system I would check out. If she has a dementia/alzheimer's they have one especially for this particular situation..Another factor, as already mentioned, may be a cost factor.
If you are not sure, Contact your local agency on aging, to discuss matters- and see what is most appropiate. OR get back to all of us, with more information on your Mom's health issues-to determine where to go from here.
Good luck-and I think you are going in a very positive direction.

Either Medical Alert or LifeStation are the best IMO. Both offer the ability for a live, USA based rep to talk to your loved one via a speaker phone. The pendants are waterproof, so they can take the emergency button in the bathroom (the most dangerous place in the house) with them. Cost are about $30 per month - NO CONTRACTS. Avoid any system that locks you into a long term contract.
