I'm 58 years old and have been caring for my mother for the past 5 years. I also took care of my father until he passed last year. I lost my full time employement due to taking care of both my parents. My mother lived with me until Dec 07 and I had to put her in a nursing facility, due to advancing alzhiemers. I manage her medication ordering, and her financial affairs. I go to the nursing home daily, just recently she stopped eating, and I am struggling with this phase of her illness. I have been trying to find some part-time employement. Once an employer knows that you have this caregiver commitment they are turned off.
Even though she is in a nursing facility, I am still the 24/7 on call person. This is my life, and at times it gets overwhelming.
I am caring for my mother, Sarah, who is 80 years old, living at my home and the primary ailment is alzheimer's / dementia.
