hi, name is cindy. i am so with you! not sure what state u r in. we live in ohio. my dad doesn't qualify for medicaid, but still lives on a very limited income, and barely has enough to pay his bills. i, also, believe if insurance programs, etc, can pay for outside care, even to a certain degree, there should be some sort of way, from somebody, that we family caregivers can get paid! i am a single mom with a 9 yr old, have bills up to my neck, and am unable to work due to being a 24/7 caregiver to my father who has terminal lung cancer, and ailments relating to this. he cannot pay me. but i do all the yardwork, housework, meal prep, making sure he gets meds, being a gopher for everything, etc. his physical activity consists of going to the bathroom, and going out the door for dr's appts. he pretty much sits in a chair other than that. my uncle was just telling him last night, he needs to make sure he appreciates all i do for him, cause my brothers don't do anything on the day-to-day stuff. one brother takes him to his appts, due to me not driving right now. i sure wish the state or SOMEONE would appreciate, and realize all we do, and give up to do this for our parents, and develope a program to where we can have a financial means to help us all out!
