After lots of research and, thankfully, great insurance from a company he worked for for 35 years with a great retirement plan that cover him for life, we decided on back surgery. He now walks upright and sometimes uses a cain but otherwise he's good. People thought he was too old to undergo this type of surgery. I actually had someone with him 24 hrs a day for 2 weeks so that he wouldn't get out of bed and injure himself. He called them the "police patrol" and fought tooth and nails with them to ease up - we stuck with the plan and thank God, he's well. THEN when he got well, he started riding his tricycle back and forth to the liquor store and while drunk fell off numerous times and re-injured his back! Now he's in an assisted living facility where he's not allowed to go anywhere unless I take him! AFTER ALL THAT! You can only do so much --
