I am a two-time cancer survivor, and I often think one step beyond you---that is, who will there be to care for me if, when my mother dies, I am sick? Clearly not my sisters---and like so many people involved in caregiving I have simply had no time to make friends or delegate responsibilities.
I consider myself a reasonably religious person, but anyone who uses the phrase "God's will" about anyone suffering, the caregiver or the patient, should be smacked. What I try to remember is that I am a valuable person--and just as I was a little surprised to find myself taking care of my mother, I truly believe that provisions will be made for me. You are a valuable person, and I am amazed at how often karma really does seem to come back----there are people out there admiring you and waiting to step up when it's your turn, even if it would be a lot more convenient if they'd step up now!
I will be so bold as to say God bless you, my dear. You are carrying a heavy load, but I truly believe that someday it will be removed in a positive way. And write and answer me if you feel like it. I care.
