I hear you loud and clear! This is a thankless situation and I can hear and feel how frustrated and over it you are.
I have been caring for my mom for over 5 years and have gone through every emotion there is, from wanting to throttle her to being so overcome with love I cry.
The repetition will indeed make you nuts and nothing beats getting the evil eye from the mother whose butt you just wiped.
Brook no bs, and be strong with her. Feel free to tell her, 'it is not ok for you to drive me nuts, go and watch tv (or whatever) and leave me alone for (as long as the show is on) or whatever activity you can think of.
I know that she will forget the moment you say it, but YOU will feel better and that's the thing that counts. Keep telling her, go sit down and wait until the end of the show. I need a break.
My mother finally got the idea and now will hang out with the Price is Right or Jeopardy and be cool, but like I've mentioned in other posts, dementias are very unique to the individual and what works for me may not work for you, but may be worth a try. Incidentally, this needs to be repeated over and over to get it to stick. "Mom, you are driving me nuts. I need a break, period." You will get the evil eye and maybe some tears, but then again you may just get a break.
I am lucky in the fact that I don't have any brothers and sisters so I don't have those issues but I totally feel for you. People can really suck.
hang in there and use this site!! It has really helped me.
Be safe,
Bobbie
