This is one of the hardest jobs we will ever do and it just keeps getting harder and if you're like me, we question everyday why we do it. Your mother sounds EXACTLY like my mil....the col (crazy old lady). Argue, argue, argue about everything. Thinks she's 20 y/o and can still walk, drive, go anywhere she wants. The truth is she can barely walk across the floor...and we have noticed a terrible decline in the past month. Yesterday and today I have had to catch her 5 times to keep her from falling face first onto the floor. And I have a back injury....so you can see how frustrating this is. At some point, you will need to start thinking POA for mom. No, she won't like it, neither did the col, but we approached it from the standpoint of what if something happened and she couldn't answer for herself or pay her own bills? It has just made life so much easier for all of us. There will come a time when you will have to step in and start being the "bad guy".....and when they are as independent as your mom, it's hard for them to let go. The col still won't let go and we have been caring for her for 2 yrs now. But she is unable to do anything financial, eating habits have deteriorated to eating with her fingers, can't walk, can't clean herself, can't bathe herself. You might start getting paperwork prepared so when you do have to take over, it's done. Keep me informed how things are going with you.
Love,
Jam
