I have known that as long as I can keep my precious husband eating, and avoid the peg tube, that it would be easier for him and me also and from your helpful information, I now understand why I have felt this way. Does your mom have to be on the stretcher because of the peg tube?
My husband is still eating most everything and we eat a lot of salads and fresh and cooked vegetable dishes, fresh fruits, smoothies, meats, including roast occassionally, sausage, chicken, fish, etc. and he is still getting everything chewed and swallowed without choking but his tongue gets stuck at times. I have an excellent background not only with an Associate degree in Medical Office Admin., but also have been a certified Massage Therapist and had clients after a year of education in that field. I also have a long family background of natural healing and homeopathic knowledge - so all of this helps us both greatly. My current greatest difficulty is walking him with his walker. I am finally ready to reach out and find someone to come and help do this as it is getting to be so difficult for me - making me feel like I have arthritis, fibromyalgia and many aches and pains. I have no health insurance because I'm only age 60, but I do most of my own self care. It is difficult to foresee how long it will be until I must have help with his personal care. Our motorhome has only one very small bathroom and it's not very private. I feel it will all work out and as you have said, we do what we must and I am thankful for every day that my husband is with me and we keep going. We enjoyed 3 wonderful traveling years 'on the road' and the hard part for me is sometimes just 'staying put' but most of all, trying to help us both be comfortable. A Big HUG to you - and thank you again for sharing about your mom. Bless her too! RSuzyJ
