I do love what I do, even through those hard weeks where I was there for 80 hours! :-) I feel this is something for which I have always been well suited. I work for an agency, so my background was checked, as well as references. I used references from my previous Law Enforcement dispatch job, as well as a friend whose mother was my dear friend, and for whom I cared as she was dying of cancer. Agencies are expensive, I must say. Private pay is less expensive, but you don't have the assurance of supervision, rules and regs, and as I said, background checks, etc. There are websites which match up those wishing to work as caregivers privately and those who require them. This website (aging care) does not allow me to post websites in my messages. But the main word is 'care'. It is, in fact, a dot com. There may be others as well. That site requires a criminal background check, too. I think they're nation wide. I would encourage you, no matter what route you go, to have a nice relaxed interview/orientation time with a potential caregiver. My first day would be daunting to anyone - I arrived there at 10am to meet people I'd never seen before and say "Hello, I'll be showering you today." :0) But it went well, as you know now. So, take it slowly and easily in making your decision. And I would welcome a call, anytime. Can we post phone numbers on here?
