You are in a tough spot- it's hard when you've cared for someone for so long and now it's time to let go and let others help you. Placing does not mean that you don't care on the contrary placing is often the best thing we can do as caregivers. As for the "guilt", try to find a more accurate term for what you are feeling....sadness, anger, frustration, loss of control, conflict, doubt... over the situation.Of coarse you will feel badly that there could have been or might have been a different ending- and it will eat you up if you let it. Know that you are not deserting her- you will still care for her- just not 24/7. Promises made can not always be realistically kept- nor should they. No place is perfect- be careful of the placement agencies- they may not charge you, but they do pay the person who recommends the placement so they may not be in your best interest. Ask around, go visit at different times- especially on the week ends. If you want to talk or need some help finding the right type of place let me know- I'm here for you, you are not alone.
