Sue Maxwell, Lee Memorial Health System’s Gerontology Business Leader, holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, Florida. She has been involved in the field of aging for 25 years.

Sue Maxwell, Lee Memorial Health System’s Gerontology Business Leader, holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, Florida. She has been involved in the field of aging for 25 years.
As the System Director, she provides direct service to the 50+ population from a clinical perspective as well as wellness and prevention. She has been a consultant with other health care systems in Florida and other parts of the United States to develop successful programs about aging.
She is the Board President of the Dr. Piper Center for Social Services. She served as a past President of the Southern Gerontological Society and a past President of the Florida Council on Aging. She also serves on many local non-profit boards in Fort Myers as well as on the Florida Gulf Coast University School of Social Work and the College of Health Professionals for Interdisciplinary Studies advisory councils. Sue is also an Adjunct Professor for the schools of Social Work and Health Professionals. She was chosen as one of finalist in Florida Gulf Coast Woman of the Year and recognized as a Woman of Accomplishment. Governor Jeb Bush appointed her and she served as a Commissioner of the State Retirement Commission for the State of Florida. She also was a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. At the Annual Southern Gerontological Society Conference, Sue received the 2001 Applied Gerontologist of the Year Award for her accomplishments in the field of aging in Florida. On behalf of Lee Memory Care, Sue accepted the 2002 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Catalyst Institute as one of the “Best Practices” for Ingenuity, Practicality, Cost-efficiency and Ability to be replicated.
In her position of System Director, Sue is responsible for the administrative and the hands-on care of patients in the Lee Memory Care clinic. Sue is a community trainer on Memory Enhancement classes and Sensitivity Training. She is also a certified ALF Alzheimer’s Disease training provider for Nursing Home Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Disorder (ADRD) and Level I and Level II for the State of Florida.
