In her first career, Lynn Ivey had more than 25 years experience in the banking industry. Lynn’s new journey began in April 2004 while caring for her mother who had dementia, requiring Lynn to leave her banking career.
Adult day care became a critical component of her mother's daily care plan, providing social stimulation and medical supervision, without the requirement to move from her home in Wilmington, N.C. This rewarding experience inspired Lynn to launch The Ivey, an adult day care center in Charlotte, in January 2005.
After 3 years of research, development, and construction, The Ivey opened 2008 and became a non-profit organization in 2009.
The Ivey developed as a tribute to Lynn Ivey’s mother as well as her father who was her mother's loving caregiver for many years. Seeing that adult day care was the best solution for her parents, Lynn created The Ivey as a national model that not only provides outstanding care in a beautiful, lodge-style setting for individuals fighting the disease but also creates a supportive environment for families coping with the challenges of caregiving.
Lynn and The Ivey have been profiled or featured in AOL Jobs and Careers, The Charlotte Observer, SouthPark magazine, South Charlotte Weekly, WCNC-TV and WFAE, Charlotte’s NPR station.
She is active in the community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Western NC Chapter of The Alzheimer’s Association. She was the Volunteer Chair of the Charlotte Alzheimer’s Association 2009 Memory Walk, and a member of the Aging Resource Network and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Aging Coalition.
Active in organizations that support small business owners, Lynn is a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and a Pathfinder member of the Business Innovation and Growth Council (BIG Council).
