Financial aid for elderly parents

I need to find financial aid for my elderly parents so they can remain in their own home instead of a facility. Dad is 89, has dementia. Mom is in the hospital due to osteoporsis. They own their own home and have a small savings. I would need a home health aid for all night till relieved either by me or another day aid. They have slightly too much for Title 19 - It would be less costly to be at home instead of a nursing home, yet there is no funding other than a respite program to incourage this as far as I know. Please advise and thanks.

Pleaseassist. My grandmother was very independat until 9/11, she had a heart attack. I'm her grandchild, my mom passed 5 years ago. I work at a daycare after being laidoff from my job. I do not make enough to support my self let a lone my grandmother. She has althemizers and a nursing is too expensive. My mom ask me years ago to never put herin a nursing home, so i now the same would apply for granny. Please let me know if there is any financial assistance for elderly.

You could try investing. However, you would want to invest with something that wont dissappear with the rise and fall of whatever you invest in. I hope this will help you help your parents and grandparents. Best Wishes!

Thoughts: Reverse Mortgage if parents own home.
If one child has money the other children could sign a note to the person with money that could be paid when the parent's estate is settled before dividing proceeds.
If parents can downsize, a bridge loan could carry them until the former home sells.
If either parent is a Veteran, there is a benefit called the Improved Pension Benefit to help with care at home. If the veteran is deceased the benefit inures to the surviving spouse. Excellent and less stringent requirements than Medicaid. Good luck. Sherylo

Hi ogomez,

I'm sorry about your situation. Do you currently live in Columbia or you're just from Columbia? Where ever you may be, there should be something called an Area Agency on Aging that you can find in the phone book or by doing a search for your location (where you live) and the term Agency on Aging.

I really hope that this helps you. Let us know if you need more assistance.
