Give a Hug
Sep 1, 2010
My mother lives in Louisiana. I would like to see if I can get care for her 24 hours a day. My younger brother takes care of her.

You can get as much care for your mother as she is willing to pay for. If she is unable to pay for it then I'm afraid it will be very difficult to keep her at home as the cost is quite prohibitive unless brother continues to provide.
I've written many times on this site about paying for home care so please do a search. Basically your options are:1. Limited home care benefits from Medicaid if available in your state.2. VA Improved Pension if her husband was a veteran and she did not divorce him.Much depends on what afflicts your mother. Sometimes public funded adult day care programs can be a meaningful alternative.Contact your local Area Agency on Aging. They should be able to help you begin piecing together a solution.
