When selecting the music for a funeral:

  • Choose songs that help mourners reflect on the decedent, grieve over his passing and celebrate his life.
  • Choose music that provides comfort and stimulates pleasant memories of the departed person.
  • Choose funeral songs that reflect the person's personality, or songs that are one of the departed parent's favorites. If the song has a special relevance to the decedent, consider preparing a short verbal introduction so that all mourners can understand its significance.
  • Ask family if they have any ideas or special requests for funeral songs or funeral music.
  • If you are having trouble choosing, consider instrumental funeral songs.
  • Before using funeral music, listen to the song completely before hand, and look over the lyrics. There are many websites that will list lyrics and let you preview songs.
