My mother-in-law is the widow of a WWII veteran who served 5 years in the army. Her only income is social security. She has no assets or property in her name. Is she eligible to any kind of income. She is living alone in the house her daughter owns.

There are five eligibility requirements (1) War time service - 1 day during war period and (0 days service, (2) Marriage - surviving spouse must have been married to veteran at time of death and married at least 12 unless they had a child. (3) income - income remaining after reduction for unreimbursed medical expenses must be less than pension amount. (4) Net worth- net worth must be significantly less than $80,000, as a rule less than $50,000 for a couple and $40,000 for one person, and (5) Health - amount of pension is based on the health of the claimant. There are 2 levels - Basic (low income), Housebound and Aid and Attendance.(cannot live independently).

There is a list of documents she will need to prove she is eligible to receive aid and attendance. Go to the search on this website and do a search for VA benefits and you will see a lot of information to get you started. It sounds like she is eligible but you'll need to see the requirements to make sure.
