My husband has been in a nursing care home and a hospital for about 3 years now with dementia. I always visited him every other day, except for the weekend, as I am looking after everything at home by myself, and there is a lot to do outside and inside. I had to have cataract surgery, August 2nd and August 9th, so I haven't been able to visit him because of not being able to drive and looking after all the eye drops involved. Will this affect him that I haven't visited him for a while. I sure hope not.

Enjoy the vacation! He most likely doesn't know how much time has passed between visits. When you pick up where you left off, he'll probably be glad to see you. I hope you have a good recovery.

It depends how far into his Dementia he is. There is no "time" with Dementia. Meaning, they can see u one minute and then tell someone you haven't been there. Days run into each other. Its usually "I have not seen u for a week!" when u were there everyday. I may call the desk to see how he is doing. If fine, I would not rock the boat by having them get him on the phone. It may open up a can of worms.

Have the staff check on him, he most likely will not even know one way or another.

Dementia damages the brain, he does not acknowledge or think like a person normally would.

He will be fine. Take the time for you to heal!

Video call him. Ask staff to help answer the call. Then you two can talk. If he doesn’t have a phone, ask staff to help with their phone/video. I’m sure they can help. But I guess you already thought of all that.

Hardar, welcome!

I assume you've told the staff why you're not there and they can reassure him that you're fine.

Are you able to speak to him on the phone?
