Medicare will pay but you have to follow their rules exactly. You need to get doctor to write a script. It must include a diagnosis code that is acceptable for needing a power lift chair. You must purchase the chair from an authorized Medicare durable medical equipment dealer. Some dealers will order the chair and submit the claim Medicare. However, most require payment and customer has to file Medicare claim. You have to request claim form from Medicare. Then complete and mail in. It takes about three months to get reimbursement. If a dealer cannot show you their authorized Medicare dealer approval, don’t purchase. YOU WILL NEVER GET REIMBURSED. I’ve done this several times as a POA and it is a tedious process. During the whole process make copies of everything.

srknapp1975, there are stores that will rent out a lift recliner so that the patient can take a test drive to see if they can handle the controls and are comfort with how the recliner works. The store will deliver and set up. If there is a mechanical problem, the store will send out a repair person.

My Dad did the rent route, and he fell in love with the recliner. One can continue to rent the recliner, or you can purchase it later, usually at a discount.

The important thing is that the recliner is the right fit for the patient. My Dad had shrunk over the years, so the women's size recliner was a winner.
