My Mom is now dual Medicare/Medicaid she resides in a ALF does anyone out there know if Medicaid or Medicare provides for a visiting Nurse Practitioner? My Mom's doing pretty good but in the event of something like a UTI to avoid being transported to the ER?
Is Mom required to use the ALs doctors? If so, their doctor may have his own NP. If you or the nurse felt Mom needed medical help then their doctor or NP will see Mom and bill Medicare and Medicaid.
If Mom still uses her own doctor than check with him if he would make a house call or send a NP. If he does, he will bill Medicare and Medicaid.
I just looked it up, seems Medicare only pays thru agencies. For that, a doctor would order homecare usually after a hospital stay. Once the homecare is not needed, the patient is discharged from the service. When on Medicaid, the provider is usually a health insurance company. My nephews is Blue Cross/Blue Shield. If Moms is set up like this, call them and see if they have agencies where a NP can be sent out when needed.
When Mom was in the hospital for a UTI, she was catherized to get every drop out. Elderly have a tendency not to be able to void completely. They are usually put on a broad spectrum antibiotic. But as someone has said here, a culture should be done to make sure the correct antibiotic is being used. If Mom is not on cranberry tablets ask the Hospice nurse about them. Mom was put on a probiotic while in an antibiotic because of yeast infections that can be caused by the antibiotic. It was continued after she had completed her antibiotic. My Mom went from Oct 2016 to Sept 2017, her passing, with no more UTIs.
