Dad entered the NH after being released from the Hospital and he needed 24 hour care. He has accumulated three months of charges as the Medicaid application was denied because I left three thousand in his account. Now the bill is $15,000 will Medicaid pick this up or am I, daughter and POA just responsible for the patient pay. My dad had Aid and Attendance with the Veterans and frankly I am considering which is better Medicaid or the VA. Certainly home health aides are less expensive than the 5000 NH pay if not approved for something I don't know about and he did not have a supplemental so he went on full daily pay after the 20 day Medicare ended.

Get a copy of the admitting paperwork. See if you signed "Jane Doe, POA" or "Jane Doe." If you signed "Jane Doe" they have grounds to hold you liable for unpaid bills. Talk to an attorney ASAP.

You need to spend his money down to the allowed amount in your state. In NJ its 2k. Try to find something you can spend on for him. Then reapply. You cannot be held responsible for the money unless you signed something saying you would be. You need to talk to the finance office. Maybe they can help you work it out.

ckrestaurant1, I am moving your post closer to the front of the forum. Hopefully a caregiver who is familiar with medicaid pending will be able to give you advice.
