Hmmm.... it seems that by your caring good nature you may have set what appears to be a pattern to some of your family members who want to get on the "good ship lollipop" in the future! Only you can stop yourself from being abused so it is time to let the family planning to add to your list of projects, that the ship has sailed and she missed the boat. You will not be taking on the role of caregiver to anyother family members as you have your own child and family to enjoy and care for. Say this as firmly and as often as needed and make it a statement of fact, not something that is up for discussion. Frankly if you have to say it 5 times by the 6th time ... just say "I've made a statement about this several times, It's not open for discussion and I refuse to hear about it again. Try calling your local Office on Aging or the Bureau of Child Welfare for some guidance on how to plan for your future and your grandkids." Then end the discussion and physically and emotionally walk away. Yes.... you are a kind hearted person and it will be hard but............ it is hard to feel sorry for the doormat who is getting stepped on if it keeps lying in front of the door. Get away from the door!
Good luck and peace.

I COMPLETELY understand. The issues boils down to willingness, kindness, compassion and capable ability. You’re the one in the family that has all of this and therefore … tag! … you are it! I don’t make light of it. We are In in the same boat.

I was watching the bomb scene at the Boston marathon, and what interested me was that there were hundreds of people that were running away from it, yet there were several people running towards it. Same thing at 9/11.

We are the ones that run towards the disaster to help those that are struck down while other run away as fast as they can

i could tell you my tale of woe… how everyone else in my family ran away…but you already know it. I feel EXACTLY like you do and there are days (many) where I feel I’m at the very frayed end of a short rope.

One day God will bless us greatly for being the ones that run towards the disaster. In the meantime just know that you are a unique, very special person. Even if no one else ever tells you so. You are strong enough to do this, stronger than the rest. You are not alone. There are many of us our here in the trenches.

But one day you will look back on all of it and you will be able to say you lived your life in a way that truly mattered to others. Not many can say that.
