Find Care & Housing
Imagine you woke up tomorrow in a home you had never seen before with no idea how you had gotten there. To add to the fear you are surrounded with people you don't recognize who are trying to drug you and refusing to let you leave. Those people tell you that they are your family and that this place you have never seen before is your home.

Would you believe these strangers? I know I wouldn't. I'm pretty stubborn and I can tell you straight up that if someone I don't even know tries to convince me of something I KNOW is not true they won't be able to succeed.

None of us want to believe our mind is slipping and that other people remember things better than we do. It's pretty easy to understand why they want to go home. In their minds they are not home and it's pretty terrifying.

It's a desire to return to a place and time when things made sense and they felt safe and loved and in control. Some suggest the best way to deal with this is to reminisce about his parents - "I bet you're missing your mom's special apple pie aren't you... tell me about your favorite meals she used to make". Don't try to insist they've been gone for 30 years, it will only break his heart because he can't remember.

At one time I had problems with Luz hollering for her mother. I simply explained that she had passed away years ago as did her youngest sister and a neice. She seemed to understand. We cried for a while but Luz never hollered for her mother again.
This worked for us but your situation is more than likely different and this would not work for you.
Good luck on what ever you try.
