Doctor sent the prescription for it on 9/28/2014 to open Aire Mobility MRB and still not here. His supplemental insurance Senior Care Plus here in Carson City Nv approved it and now Open Aire says no he can't have it until all the forms for Medicare are filled out completely by Jerry's Doctor. Medicare durable equipment lady says she has heard nothing about the request. He some days can get to the bathroom but then has to sit on the toilet. He has COPD and 35% heart function and diabetes. The guy in Florida says we need to make sure the chair is medically necessary.. I am just so very tired of this. He is on Oxygen about 20 hours per day and somedays he feels great

Of course regulations here (Belgium / Europe) are not the same as where you live. We can only obtain a partial reimbursement provided we have a handicap of at least 66 % due to back or leg failures. For other diseases, it is impossible. Also, they don't pay back part of the price if it is only for use inside. When you purchase it to get out, go and meet friends, shopping etc.. then you get a partial reimbursement. On the other hand, we have the possibility here to buy a 2nd hand one. There are so many motorized wheelchairs for sale, who have only been used for a couple of hundred miles. May be this is a possibility as well. Anyway, how difficult it may be, it is necessary that your father goes with you to purchase such wheelchair, as it must fit him and have a comfortable seating. Hope you have luck and will be able to find a good wheelchair. With a big hug.

He is not looking for a free item. He is looking to pay his 30 or 20% out of pocket expense so he can make it to the bathroom and kitchen. Senior Care Plus approved the chair and they do not understand the hold up either. The difference in out of pocket expense to Jerry is 10%. No big deal. If we had the money to purchase believe you me we most certainly would have by now because these people at Open Aire do not care. We did not ask for Medicare to do any of this but that is why he has purchased the supplemental. Open Aire claim is that they still need to run it by Medicare to make certain it is medically necessary. Am just plain tired of him being treated with no dignity. I will figure out something and it is obvious it will be without anyones help. .

MollyMac, unfortunately items that are free do take time to get processed. If this is a constant circle of forms, etc. do you have any extra savings where you can purchase your own scooter, since your husband would fair better having one, then try to get a reimbursement later on? I don't know if that is an option or not.
