I am looking for my great grandmother. I am her Great Granddaughter and would like to verify the date of her death. Would you be able to help me?

All above great answers. If you know the town or county she is buried in, city and county give you dates and records and. Gravesite directions. Find a grave and ancestry and Mytrees works well to.

Since I have been climbing around my family tree this past year, sometimes it is difficult to find where someone had been buried, as some will use cremation without burying in a cemetery. Then there are family cemeteries that are not listed anywhere. The information on some websites is only as good as the relatives who have placed the information. My Mom's side of the family no one placed copies of the tombstones or date information... [sigh].

So my next step was to see if the State where they passed had on-line records. I would Google "certificate of death (State name)". Some States the information is easy to find and it is free. Other States you need to jump through hoops and pay a fee and wait for a copy to arrive in the mail or via email.

I've been using Ancestry.com and it has been a great help. Sometimes you can find photos of long lost relatives, I finally got to see a picture of my Great-great grandparents and Great-great-great grandparents that a person had placed on Ancestry :))

Do you know which cemetery?

If you do, look it up online. I expect you will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to find a contact number for its managers, and again by the extent and detail of their records.

If you know the area but not the precise name of the burial place, pick a likely looking one (the older and larger the better) and, again, give them a call. If they can't help you they might still have good advice to offer.

Or, if it is only the date of death you need to verify, try familysearch.org. You will need to know which state your great grandmother died in.

You can try findagrave dot com. Not comprehensive, but could be helpful.
