Typically 1 time a year and it is almost 1 week respite. Although some Hospice might, if they have room in their In Patient Unit might arrange Respite there and have 1 day as a "pain or medication management" day. Some Hospice, if they do not have an In Patient Unit or room have arrangements with a Long Term Care facility or Rehab facility and will use that for Respite. I do not think they do in home respite. At this time, personally the only place I would feel comfortable placing a loved one would be at the Hospice In Patient Unit. The units are usually small, no more than 16 patients and at this time very limited visitors into the building, and the only staff is typically limited to Nurses, CNA's and other clinical staff. While on Hospice though there are also Volunteers that will come and sit with your mom for about 4 hours at a time so you can get out and run errands. (most Hospice have suspended Volunteers at this time though)
