Which of the numerous reusable bed pads on the market is best for my elderly mom?

I love these - avacaremedical.com/cardinal-health-washable-bed-pad - they're really absorbent, come in different sizes for different size beds/patients and they really last!

Does medicare pay for the heavy duty ones? I know my mom is on hospice and she gets hers free. We have so many its not funny.

I just used the products readily available at local stores, all of the ones I bought stood up well to repeated washing and were cheap enough to replace without worrying about the cost. And BTW, they all specifically said not to use bleach because it destroys the waterproof properties.

my dad had washable pads. one for: bed, easy chair, wheelchair. I think I bought them on amazon.

I guess I only bought two online. maybe the bigger bed one at a local medical supply

when I purchased I just picked one. and I usually don't focus on the 5 star rating. I pay attention to the 1 star ratings. that way I can get an idea from negative posts too.

Bed pad or bed pan?

I have been having a look for you and this one seem viable. It is a Bed Pan from the Complete Care Shop - on line.

If you do not yet have a 'hand steamer' then it might be good to get one. Steam is a great cleaner. In the hospital we used the stainless steel type, but we had machines autoclaves and to do the cleaning and sterilising.

Personally I could never get on with one. I had to have it on a chair. But thats just me.

In my case, I dont use the washable ones because I’ve found they disintegrate after a month or so of continual washing/occasional bleaching. It seems to me that those pads just hold the wetness against the person’s skin. I use disposable bed pads from the drug stores. I’ve also read posts here about puppy piddle pads bit those are rather stiff. But, in all honesty, my husband is like Niagara Falls. If we could afford the all those briefs, I probably should change him every 2 or 3 hours. I wonder if a good, super absorbent adult diaper wouldn’t be better than the underpads.
