As long as she is cooperative and not bowel incontinent, she may be a good candidate for Assisted Living. Given her age, she may qualify through your county social services for community housing for the disabled and adult day rehab.

In the meantime, don't have her put on socks! Buy her some mules she can just slip on. Let her be as independent as she can be. My dad had a horrible stroke...same side. He lived for nine years with his wife until something unrelated took him. He had a rising chair to help him get up and many other stroke aids that gave him real independence. Getting these things for her will help her be a candidate, as Pam said, for assisted living.

Here's a web site with all kinds of helpful products. I hope she's taking her rehab seriously; that's probably the hardest part. She can be darned near independent if she works hard and has the proper clothing type, shoes, meal prep tools, etc. Of course, her eventual level of ability depends on the severity of her stroke.
