she is 81, can barely walk and it is so difficult getting her into the car to take her to the doctor, it is only a couple times a year, but we need help
Alternatively, (if the medical issues are standard) you might use a visiting Physicians service where the Doctor makes house calls. You can do a computer search for your area to identify participating Doctors.
genbeaglelady I bought a wheelchair for just that purpose only...to take Mom to the Dr. I would wheel her to the car, assist her in getting in and the park the wheelchair until we got back home. I never took it with me because all doctors offices have wheelchairs on hand. Then when I'd get back home I would assist her back into the wheelchair and take her into the house. Of course this wouldn't work if you have stairs to work around. In fact I still have the wheelchair and live just south of Dayton if your interested.
I have to say, for us, one of the best aspects of moving my mom initially to Independent Living was that the doctor was on site.
