My ex-husband's father (78) needs a place to live in Orange County, CA. My ex-husband was in the mortgage industry and cannot find significant-enough work to make house payments. It's been a year since his last payment. He'll be losing the home soon and is unable to afford other living conditions for himself let alone for his father or for our two children (who will live with me). What do you do in a situation like this? Where does an elderly person living on social security live when their children can no longer support them?

There are government programs throughout the US that provide apartments based on income. Low income housing for seniors is usually pretty nice and will cost about 30% of the SS check. Check out HUD housing for Seniors.

If CA does not have options maybe it is time for your x-husband and father to move to the Sunny South. SC is a hot market, growing economy (even though we have high unemployement we have high number of low trained people).
