I bet word of mouth you would get rid of them. For some families this is a big expense and they would welcome them. I worked for a Visiting Nurse Assoc. We took this stuff all the time for our clients.
If they are unopened many Senior Centers have a "diaper bank" some businesses have "diaper bank drives" and they accept all sizes from infant to adult. Your local Food Pantry would probably love to have them Local PADS Site or try your church or other religious affiliation. Anything that has been opened will probably not be accepted by an organization. If you have belonged to a Support Group and you know of anyone in the group that could use items they personally might take an open package. (Personally I would not)
The Hospice agency my husband had, did in fact over the 22 months that he was with them, take back things that we either had an abundance of, or no longer needed. It was only during Covid that they told me that they wished they could take things, but because of the virus they couldn't.(even though they had been taking things from us for almost 2 years) And actually his main nurse, did take some items from me during Covid, stating that she really wasn't supposed to, and for me just not to tell. I'm just the kind of person who doesn't like to see anything of value go to waste, if someone else can use it, so I was just glad to know they were going to be used. I guess this Hospice agency has been in the wrong the whole time, according to what you commented on earlier today. And it does make sense, what you were told by your hospice agency. It doesn't really surprise me that the agency we used would not do things on the up and up, as they were sadly lacking in properly caring for their patients who didn't die in a timely like my husband, who lived for 22 months under their care. That's a whole other story for another time.
I may be wrong, but I think most places that normally would take those supplies, are not taking any now due to Covid. I know that after my husband died, and I had quite a few unopened supplies left, I asked his Hospice agency if they wanted any of them and was told that normally they would take them, but because of Covid, they weren't allowed to any more. So I just mentioned it to the folks on my local caregivers support group, and several folks on there were happy to take them.
I was told by Hospice that "officially" they could not take items because they had already been billed for and paid for through Medicare and that to take the items back and give them to another family would be double billing and therefore fraud.
