Find Care & Housing
As a stair lift dealer, I have seen very few organizations pay for a stair lift. There have been a few times when the Multiple Sclerosis Society has pitched in $500 towards the cost. The most support I have seen is the local government agencies - Council on Aging. The process can be fairly long and will require you to get three quotes. There is NO NEED for anyone to come to your house for a "Survey". Any dealer worth his salt has seen hundreds of staircases just like yours. 99% of homeowners have nothing unique. Simply describe the steps/landings if any and a quote can be e-mailed to you instantly.

The only government agency that will help with costs is the Veteran's Administration. Other than that, you are on your own. Stair lift costs have come down in the last few years. You can check:

My neighbor was needing a scooter, but NOTHING was happening.
Contacting the scooter company helped because they want the sale.
Then, the doctor orders the needed medical equipment, maybe with an Rx for Medicare to approve. Patient needed to make a separate appointment.
Pushing for follow-up with the doc, calling the company to push for follow-up yielded the scooter delivery. Patient paid for the upgrade, but I was not privy to the financial details.

Be brave, move downstairs until you can get the needed equipment. There is no shame in living downstairs, imo.

Certain charities dedicated to the disabled can help. Maybe contacting the United Way may help you?

Hello helpingpop,

Below is a link on our site to find your local Area Agency on Aging. They often times can help guide you with any resources that are available locally for your dad.

https://www.agingcare.com/local/Area-Agency-on-Aging

Choose your state and then within you will find the agencies covering usually a few counties each.

I wish you the best with dad!
