I think the price of meds is negotiable in some situations. Speak to your doctor, Council on Aging, anyone that can lead you in the right direction to receive help.

Good luck.

I have found that in general families do not level with doctors on the costs of medications and what they can afford. As to medications for dementia, many are "new" and therefore without generics; many generics themselves are more costly now in the world of run-away pharmaceuticals. I would tell the doctors that you are not using any dementia new drugs that are not proven. I think that leaves you down to zero on them. And that you will accept only those drugs with generics at this point. This may save you a lot. You do see now in fine print on all the drug ads on TV the cost of the new meds. They are often over 3,000 a month. There is really no "cure" of anything happening with most of them. So it does take some research. Sorry you are going through this.

Medicaid is also prescription coverage, without copays. Talk to the caseworker.
