I don't know a whole lot, I'm new to this, but Palliative Care is a type of medical care that focuses on comfort. I believe that Hospice is a part of PC. You can consult with them at any point. Their focus though is helping provide comfort rather than life saving efforts. When we consulted for my mom, they explained that as long as she was a dialysis patient (life sustaining treatment) she would not be eligble for hospice.
