My wife broke her hip a year ago and since that episode has refused to walk even before she used a walker. she has me . She is just withering away. She can stand a bit which helps getting her to bed or on the toilet, bathing etc. but I see the day where she will not be able to assist. She was in a care facility for a month after she broke her hand in a recent fall and hated it. In home help would bankrupt me and I have a lot of life left.

Do I have alternatives?

Find Care & Housing
I have two suggestions.

1. Have your wife seen by a geriatric psychiatrist. She may be suffering from severe depression. She may have suffered a stroke which can cause personality changes. Find out what is going on inside her head.

2. Visit an a certified eldercare attorney (NELF.org). You need to get your financials squared away so that YOU do not become impoverished. Marital assets can be divided so that she can be admitted to a care facility paid for by Medicaid after her part of the joint assets are spent down.
