My mom is 90, we received our annual flu shot on Thurs, then ate breakfast at a popular chain. About 3 hrs later we both experienced intestinal problems so I am thinking it was food poisoning and not the flu. My symptoms resolved, but my mom's continued. Doctor on Sat. (on call) prescribed lomita. Her symptoms seem to have resolved.
QUESTION...she lost 10 lbs! What kind of food can I gradually add back to her diet knowing her tummy is still in recovery.
Thank you all so much!!! This site gives me hope knowing I am not alone.

I would start by asking her doctor's advice? Does she have bp issues? In general, you want to make sure that she's hydrated, her electrolytes in balance and not too much salt if she has hypertension.

I remember my Mom always gave us mashed potatoes as a test to see how our stomach would handle it.

My mom has a myriad of doctors. Most seem too busy anymore to dedicate time to elderly. I watch my moms bp (which thankfully has been normal) and have been supplementing gatorade with her fluids. This site is priceless to help me think outside the box when medical help is seemingly void.

One recommendation that I've gotten in the past is the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Gatorade is great for the electrolytes! good job!

That 10 lbs would be mostly fluid loss, you can't lose muscle or fat so quickly.
Check her for dehydration by pinching up loose skin on the back of her hand. It should go back down quickly, If it does not, call the MD and ask if she needs IV ringer's to restore fluids.
