That can cause other issues. They may not be able to get out of bed if it is too low to the ground.

It’s called a hospital bed. Just remember to put up the rails.

People can still fall out of a hospital bed if they’re really determined. My brother needed a bed very close to the ground.

You are correct that the two types of alarms are 1) alert you before someone gets out of bed, or 2) after they get off. In theory, the first is better because you could potentially arrive at the bedside before the person could actually fall and hurt themselves. We bought one of those for my MIL. Our experience was that there were many false alarms when she would roll over in bed and trigger it, so one of us would run to the bedroom "just in case". We ended up getting little sleep ourselves and our nerves were frayed. The other problem with our unit was that it supposedly would last a little more than a year and would have to be replaced, so do your research if you are leaning in that direction. So consider factors such as how active the sleeper is (i.e., does she toss and turn alot, does she need several potty visits, etc.). You should also consider whether a bed rail should be used, and if she could be relied upon consistently to alert you herself with a button alarm at bedside or one worn on her neck -many versions of that on the market. That never worked for us because my MIL never used it.
