I am on call 24 hours a day and can not go anywahere for more than an hour or two . I am committing my life to bering here for this person . I have missed out on numerous family events bevause of needing to be here

It's not about the money, as you are finding out. It is an unsustainable arrangement at any price. Your person needs to hire 2 others for shifts, as was suggested. Don't settle for NO as an answer. It may be time to pack up and leave if this person doesn't have empathy for what this schedule is doing to you. You have all the power, so give them the ultimatum to hire more people or you leave.

Jvaughsgirl, welcome to the forum. First of all, do you have a written Contract with the client that states the number of hours you work, and the work that would be needed, and the hourly pay. It is so very important to have a Contract.

Are you being paid by check with the required Federal taxes being taken out? That is so important when the time comes for you to received Social Security when you are older. Is the client paying for Workman's Comp Insurance, in case you should get hurt on the job? https://www.care.com/hp/nanny-workers-compensation-insurance/ Many States require such insurance be paid by the client, so check to see if this is required in your State.

Ten years ago when my Dad had 3-shifts of caregivers each day, he was paying $30/hour to a caregiving Agency. Dad was paying over $700 per day. And the 3rd shift person had to be awake during their shift. The caregivers all got to go home to their families at the end of their shifts.

No matter who this person is or what relationship you have with them, you are not a slave. That is illegal. You need to just leave, and get a regular paid job. Is this person paying the required taxes for you as an employee? Make a plan to leave, and call Adult Protective Services to tell them that you are leaving and they will need to take over this person's care. Then go live your life free.
