The kitchen chair has a pad with light green covering that Spouse frequently soaks because his Depends get flooded and he doesn't change them often enough to allow them to do their job. I'm planning to cover the pad with plastic to save laundering the whole pad each time and can sew a new cover on it. If he sees the stains, he's more likely to realize how bad the problem is. Now and then he notices when the pad gets soaked (from its appearance only, because wearing wet pants doesn't seem to bother him) and it seems to spark a Depends change.

White, I would think. But of course, having white fabric on a kitchen chair pad is not a very wise idea for 100+ reasons, lol. What I suggest (in general) is having the fabric vinylized.............kind of like laminated...........a higher end upholstery shop can press clear vinyl over any fabric you like, making it easy to wipe clean with Windex. I realize you're trying to get DH to see his wet stains, this is just an idea for general ease & convenience in the kitchen and to be able to use the fabric of your choice with no worries about stains.

Thanks for the swift reply. It does seem a light color with no background pattern works best to show a spreading stain; the suit pants are black and show no stain but boy howdy do they stink.

A nice medium grey, in fact medium shades in general show wetness more than dark or light.

At an rehab was at I noticed the furniture had a fabric on it that was waterproof. Looked like fabric but had a plastic coating. I would rather do this than clean up fabric all the time. Eventually ur not going to get the smell out.

Right you are. The pad is losing its stuffing with all the laundering and needs the plastic and new cover like right now. I'm looking over what is in my fabric bag and making a choice.

Are these chair cushions/pillows? Or washable pads? If the cushion/pillow/pad is waterproof then where will the urine go? I would think you would want the pad to absorb rather than having to clean up some other area. What about having several absorbent pads to change out rather than a cushion?

The pad is washable and quite thick, but I believe that if a plastic cover goes over it with a thinner cover over that, such as a heavy cotton, the a/the stain will be more visible to jog a Depends change, and b/the cotton cover will take less drying time than the thick pad. After cleansing the plastic cover, the cotton cover can be washed and dried more quickly and I won't wind up laundering at 11 p.m.

Update: I selected beige, installed the new pad, and so far, so good. If the problem gets to where Spouse doesn't recognize that the stains show, then chux are the next step. I guess they could be taped to the chair. Upon sitting, he squirms around a lot and if anything isn't taped or tied to the chair, the things slip off to create yet another reason to gripe.
