Find Care & Housing
Bird - AFC, so you are in an assisted living facility? If that is the case, I'd suggest that your first step is to find out IF your state does a Medicaid waiver program for AL (not all states do or it's limited); then if your AFC accepts the waiver and under what conditions (tends to be 2 years of private pay before your name goes onto a waiting list).

The AL waiver program can be problematic as isn't automatic either by the State to continue to fund or for a facility to participate in. For my state - Louisiana - the AL waiver program has thousands on a waiting list and the State is shifting waiver funding to PACE centers. If your in a state that's doing this, you might want to look into eligiblity for skilled nursing placement in a NH as most take medicaid (so you'd apply for Medicaid).I got my mom moved from private pay IL to NH on Medicaid and bypassed AL stage. Not simple but can be done.
