coolgrammie, the state pays (Medicaid). Well over half of the people in our nursing homes are being paid for by Medicaid. If you'd like to post more, we could help you go about getting into a facility.

Move to Canada. We are so blessed here. My 95 yo mom is being looked after in a long-term care facility and the government is paying. That's how it works here. They look after their citizens... all of them.
Praying for your loved one for a miracle.
Bless you both.

Grateful, Canada only has 37 million people to worry about. The U.S. has approximately 327 million (legal) citizens, so...just a few more to tend to. FYI Medicaid does pay for LTC facilities, as my MIL is a recipient. She gets the exact same care as the private pay residents, and it's a fantastic place. We are grateful, too!

Coolgrammie, contact your State Medicaid office [which is different from Medicare] and if the patient qualifies, the patient can move to a nursing home where Medicaid will pay room/board and care.
