I know of an elderly gentleman who is exhibiting signs of dementia. He has been widowed for some time and living independently with a dog. His judgment is impaired and believes he's paying his bills, but has not. He has also written checks and overdrawn his account multiple times. When a friend asks or offers help, he is argumentative and is insistent that he's paying bills -when there are delinquent notices that verify otherwise. We are concerned for his safety and ability to continue caring for himself and his dog. Since he has NO FAMILY and no one with any form of obligation to care for him, what options are there for his safety and welfare? Who can be contacted to have him evaluated for some sort of care or placement in a elder care facility?
