Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Mom has less than $10,000 to her name, no assets, no nothing. That doesn't seem like enough to self-pay before Medicaid would kick in. I'm struggling to figure out what this will look like in case of a critical event.
1) get access to her finances, 2) find a facility that takes both private pay and Medicaid, 3) use her money to prepay one or more months private pay in said facility to establish her room and meet spend down, 4) apply for Medicaid immediately upon placement in facility -- the clock is ticking at that point, 5) upon Medicaid approval, switch the paperwork at the facility from private pay to Medicaid.
Mom doesn't need to be diagnosed with Dementia to be on Medicaid she just needs to be 24/7 care.
Its so much easier to get them in a facility with private pay. 10k would maybe get her a month. With my Mom, she had 20k. That gave her 2 months in LTC which gave me time to apply for Medicaid, spend down and get info needed to Medicaid. The third month Medicaid kicked in. You need to apply 60 to 90 days before the money runs out.
Contact Social Services and talk to a Medicaid caseworker to see what your States criteria is.
Has your mom's facility not accepted her with Medicaid pending? This could be a problem. Essentially it would leave a bill, but that bill is Mom's and clearly won't be paid until and unless there are any funds upon her death. This is why Medicaid needs to be applied for so early.
We're not actually to that point in the process yet of having a place for her to go. We're trying to get her diagnosed with dementia, but she doesn't *yet* require nursing home level of care (which is when our state deems that she is eligible for Medicaid). I am going to start calling around on Monday to get her name on waiting lists at different facilities in hopes of something miraculously being available right when we need it. So, as long as I do everything correctly once my POA kicks in, then I won't be responsible, right?
