This would be for an 81 year old lady who is mobile, alert and cooks for herself, but has become very self-isolating and not attending her church activities. So I am looking for someone to simply spend time with her and escort her to church stuff and perhaps some errands with her.

Do you have folks that do this? And, again, what is the cost? She has no money but the church might finance it. If not, can you refer me to a state funded program that might be able to provide this service?

She lives in NYC, NY.

You can expect to pay $25-27 per hour or more for a companion, especially in NYC. Check on the right hand side of your screen for the AgingCare services which are not free, nor do they deal with state funded Medicaid programs or the like. AgingCare is a for profit organization. The Care Advisors can give you info about caregivers or agencies available in your area.

Your best bet would be to check with your friend's church to see if a volunteer is willing to provide this service, I would think.

I am on an android tablet. I do not get individual emails but I do get a summary email once or 2x a day. The first thing I see is the name Aging Care and the questions asked that day and notification of PMs I may have received. When I click on "Aging Care" it takes me to 3 Avatars.

The first one says "HIRE HOME CARE...Hire in home care to assist with activities of Daily Living.

I think this is very deceiving and have contacted the Administrators about it. IMO it gives a new member the idea that we are an employment agency. We either provide or we hire. Two words would change the whole meaning HOW TO hire in home care.

Sorry CB, the site is not a Care Agency, its a forum of Caregivers sharing experiences from all over the US and other countries. The site does provide info on different subjects.

In one of the Aging care newsletters, the average cost was $27 per hour. Going through agencies, minimum is 4 hours. Remember there are insurance costs and travel costs at the expense of the caregiver who wants more than a couple of hours per day. You could also consider adult daycare for enrichment.

This not an employment site. Check with her county aging services for their assistance.
