My 96 independent uncle lives alone. He has dementia and recently was told he has terminal cancer. His personality is up and down and for the most part I could just walk away when he got out hand. His needs are increasing but he does not want outside help. I am not sure what to do? I am his main caregiver but I am limited myself and can not take care of him on a full time basis and barely on a part-time basis. Needs to focus and direction.

I would report him to Adult Protective Services as a senior in need of care. Let them open a file on him as an at risk adult.

Start with getting his doctor to recommend hospice. At least you won't have to take him to appointments any longer.

You'll have to get help in whether he likes it or not, because he won't be going anywhere but downhill.
