kassandra, I just noticed in your profile that you live in Canada, thus what programs your area has is probably different than what we have here in the States.

There are a few people on the forum who live in Canada, so hopefully they will be able to give you information.

Your profile info has more helpful info in it:

"I have been talking care of my friend jeff clean his house and cook for him and I help him keep his Dr. appointments and more he has been paying me what little he could to help me out for helping him out and then I went down with him to life scan to get finger printed and pay 50$ fee so I can be his caretaker and get paid for it I was wondering what else I would have to do?"

- have a written employment contract with him specifying your hourly rate (no less than the minimum wage), your hours, your days off, etc.

- consider getting liability insurance to protect yourself

- check your state laws about caregivers as employees. Jeff will need to pay you by check, withhold taxes, report quarterly and provide you a W2 at the end of each year IF your state automatically considers you an employee (like in my state).
