A side step to the usual hard stuff as a caregiver...

What can you share today to illuminate some of the shadows?

I took my mom to the racetrack w coffee today. She had no idea she wanted to go. I brought a chair & cushion for her & coffee. She had some time to get excited and ageless in watching the beauty of these majestic animals right in front of her. Ad the jockeys are so friendly - spoke to her - she really had fun.

Your turn.

Find Care & Housing
We have Sirius radio service in our car and I always switch on the 40's channel before I pick Mom up. She loves hearing the songs from her childhood/early teens and they have stirred up some great memories. And now I can sing along with a few of them, too.

My mom was easily amused by the Dollar Store. I'd push her in her transport chair. Thirty minutes and $10-15 worth of stuff later (candy she'd pick out herself, potato chips, individual kleenex packs, word find books, greeting cards) she would always be a happy camper. Like a kid in the candy store. Great value for the money!

My mom and Aunt like to go to the casino,,, I take them about every 6 weeks for a few hours and they are in heaven. As I can wander off while they play penny slots Its a bit of a break for me too! I play my games, check on them every bit,, and then home we go while they talk about it for days!

This is a great question! Unfortunately I can't think of anything right now (sort of brain dead at the end of the day), but wanted to bump this up so others can respond.

I've been hiring students in the community college's physical therapy program. They come and do an hour of exercises for strength & flexibility and stretching once a week with my mother at her memory care facility. So far it has kept her mobile. As she is 200+ lbs it's a back saver for me from having to push her in a wheelchair.
