Hi. My mom has been at her facility 4 years and we are running out of money. She has late stage Alzheimer’s. They told me there are no Medicaid beds available. Or at any of the other facilities. It is a chain. Has anyone has to deal with this. I can’t take the chance that one will open up. Our attorney feels we should move her now while she has about about 8 months of money Has anyone dealt with this.

Wow, that's horrible. I would have assumed they'd just keep her and allow her to shift from self pay to medicaid. So sorry about this.

Is your Mom currently in MC? If so you will need to check if her state's Medicaid will actually pay for MC... most states' Medicaid only pays for LTC.

I live in MN and when my MIL needed a Medicaid bed in her facility and there wasn't one, the 3 sons were willing to split the difference for the extra amount for a private room until there was an opening. It took less than a year (as beds for LTC "turnover" frequently) and fortunately it was not a very expensive facility. Now with much more experience and knowledge under my belt, I'd maybe research what "usually" or should happens in this situation, or talk to an ombudsman about them meeting you half way. It's not your mom's fault they don't have a bed so why should she be punished? Or consult with an elder law attorney or Medicaid Planner for her state.
