At 100 years of age, my mom's agitation seems to be increasing. When she is agitated she often doesn't know why, sometimes says she is uncomfortable but doesn't know why. It can happen at any time, even when she's riding in the car. She may stomp her feet, move around in her chair, etc. In your experience does increasing anti-anxiety meds help or is it more helpful to try to divert their attention? Does this mean she may be months away from dying?

At some point in dementia, distraction doesn’t stop agitation. Of course everyone is different. My experience has been that meds for agitation was like the difference between night and day, so I recommend meds. Good luck!

No it has nothing whatsoever to do with dying, and in fact she sounds very much alive.
Time to discuss this with her doctor who knows her much better than we do, and who can suggest ways of addressing this. Good luck.

Agitation is very common with dementia, and yes there are calming medications that do help, so definitely talk to your moms doctor about them.
And your mom is 100, so you ask if she could be "months away from dying?" and I will just say....your mom is 100, so she very well could be close to dying.
So it may be time to bring hospice on board as they will try and keep her calm and pain free until she leaves this world for the next.
