I need to leave my mom for a week and have a family member willing to stay with her. The meals will be prepared. Mom has Celiac so my husband will have everything done and in freezer. I don't know how much to pay for this service. Mom is easy to care for but cannot be left alone.

I agree with cmagnum, above.... $10/hour sounds very fair. Will the family member bring his/her own food or eat the meals that are already prepared? And does the family member know not to give Mom any wheat based food items? I know it is so easy for someone to forget about food allergies or intolerance.

Hope everything goes well :)

At least $240 a day for 24/7 care and probably more.

According to a place for mom respite care at a facility can run from $75 - $200 per day, I paid $100/day for my mom who needed total assistance in a nursing home. If you weigh out the cost of hiring an agency's hourly wages it would be astronomically more (24 hours X $15/hour = yikes!) that so I would not base it on that, especially since it is a family member.

I guess a lot depends on your income bracket. If you offered me $240 a day for a week of companion care I would encourage you to go away more often ;)

Ha! Cwilkie you're funny! As far as meals go my husband will prepare meals ahead of time and all the helper will have to do is heat it up etc. I will offer to get whatever food the woman will want. I will have to instruct this woman on not contaminating mom's food. I know this woman well enough she will be great with mom. I am hoping I won't need to leave mom anymore than this time as the cost for this week will be a doozie. I am grateful there is money for this time. I also think it will help to let mom see how much her care could cost.
